Lock repair Macclesfield Locksmiths

Lock repair
When did you last service your locks?
Door locks need to be maintained in order to keep them in good working order. Locksmiths in Macclesfield can help you to repair and maintain your locks, whether you need a locksmith in Stockport, or upvc door lock repair in Macclesfield
Maintaining your locks is very important because they can succumb to wear and tear, becoming faulty and unreliable. Keys can also become worn or bent. Using keys as a letter opener or a screwdriver will damage the key and will then damage the lock. Both of these issues will lower the security of your home. Locks will also be affected if your door drops or your hinges become loose. This is because the position of the door, and therefore the position of the lock, will have moved.
Here are some recommended checks from Locksmiths in Macclesfield. You should check your locks regularly to make sure they are still in good condition. Firstly, you should check the alignment of your door. Then you need to check that your lock is not scratched or worn. Next, take out your key and check that you can lock and unlock your door without difficulty. Also check that your lock does not give if you push against the door when it is locked.
You also need to check your keys. They should not be bent or worn out. This is also a good time to check where your spare keys are. Spare keys should be kept in a secure location that is not accessible from the outside of your home.
If there is a cat flap in your door, you should check that this is secure and that it can be locked when it is not in use.
Trusted Locksmiths in Macclesfield will be able to fix any problems with your doors or locks. They can also advise you on how to keep your home secure.

Euro cylinder attacks

Whilst there is a lot of scaremongering on various websites out there about specific types of vulnerabilities that euro cylinders (the most common form of locking device used in UPVC and composite doors) are liable to, the important thing is not to panic, as a professionally specified and fitted cylinder will help protect you.The MLA recommends the use of SS312 Diamond approved cylinders as these have been tested fully against all known MO’s for burglars.

Details of cylinders approved to this high level of testing can be found on the Sold Secure website by clicking here.
For more information about cylinder snapping, one particular type of MO that’s being used a lot currently then click here.
In a “belt and braces” type approach, you may want to talk to your local MLA licensed locksmith about upgrading your door furniture (for example fitting high strength security handles) for your added peace of mind. for a free survey on your vulnerability on your uPVC locks on Stockport, Bramhall, Cheadle, Macclesfield or Knutsford please contact us

door will not lock

Door locking problems almost always are connected with the door latch, not the locking mechanism. The latchbolt fails to penetrate into the strike plate because the door has warped, or the screws have loosened and the plate has moved. When the door is shut, the striker doesn't slip past the striker plate into the receiving hole in the jamb, or it goes in but doesn't bottom out, preventing the door from locking. A homeowner with basic DIY skills and tools can fix a door that won't latch.

1

Open the door. Examine the striker plate. That's the small rectangular brass plate on the jamb that the striker slips into. The striker plate is mortised into the jamb. If it is loose or has slipped out of the mortise, place it back in the mortise and tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

2

Shut the door and try to lock it. If it won't lock open the door. Tap the end of a chisel under the door stop on the striker side of the jamb. Pry up on it until it comes loose and remove it. Use the chisel to remove the door stop on top as well.

3

Remove the nails from the door stop using diagonal pliers. You can reuse the nails. Place the door stop back on the jamb. Set it back 1/4 inch from it's original location. You should see a distinct line in the paint, stain or varnish where it came off. Use this to align the door stop. Nail the side and top piece of door stop back on. The door should now shut and lock normally.

Things You Will Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Chisel
  • Hammer

Tip

  • If your doorknob mechanism fails internally you can't repair it. The complete lockset, including the doorknob, needs to be changed.

Warning

  • If your door is badly warped, it may not seal properly even when you move the door jamb. Check the draft after fixing the door. If it's bad you might want to consider replacing the door.

Locksmiths in Macclesfield on call 24 hours a day

We understand how the industry works and how your life works. We get exactly why it is so important to be ready to go any hour of the day because the truth is, the inconvenience of a locked car without a key never picks a convenient time to strike.
It may be right before work, right before a big football game or right after leaving from a late night on the town with friends.
Truth is, 4 AM isn’t the most convenient time for any of us to be dealing with the problems of a Macclesfield locksmith fixing your issue.
But then again, if it were an intended consequence, the timing would always be convenient.
Reality is a lot more tricky. You might lose your keys in your car at 2 in the morning. You might drop them into a river at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Either way, you didn’t think about doing it accidentally, so there’s no way you would have timed it conveniently either!
For that reason, our locksmiths in Macclesfield are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Give us a call at 01625 250275 to get our prompt, friendly service at any hour of the day with zero exceptions.
We will be there, regardless of the time and the convenience.

Orange are ripping me off!

I have had a contract almost constantly with orange since 1996

I have been using an iphone for 4 years (1st a iPhone 3gs, and a 4S)

I was prompted to update my software to IOS6 last month.

have just had a big shock. Orange have sent me an invoice for my contract, showing I have gone over my allowance of 750mb to a total of 2302mb! a total bill of £ 421

I have been using the iPhone normally as i have been for the last few years with no video. just email and a pod cast occasionally. A normal monthly usage would be around 450 - 500mb.

I phoned orange yesterday as soon as I opened the invoice, they told me there were massive downloads on Oct 11 during the afternoon (whilst I was out working). I think this has something to do with the phone updating to ios6, which i did around that time. there seems to be a lot of similar stories on the web attributing high mobile data to bugs in ios6.

Why did orange not tell me i had used my bundled data?

has anyone had any success in having orange remove these high charges?

since last Monday (new billing period) it shows i have used 680 of my 800mb!

i phoned orange tech, who said i have used .2mb since last monday!??

advised to take to apple store for a check, but no appointments for over a week..

advised to restore iphone to make sure there are no corrupted applications..

( which i have started just now)
the first thing that happened was itunes said something like "there are new carrier settings - do you wamt to proceed?"

Why Choose a Master Locksmith?

Master Locksmiths Association

Licensing the professional Locksmith

The Master Locksmiths Association (MLA) is the leading trade association for the
locksmithing industry. A truly not-for-profit organisation promoting the skill and integrity
of its approximately 1,400 members, it was established over 50 years ago to set and
promote standards of conduct, practice and materials within locksmithing. Recognised
as the authoritative body for locksmithing by the police, home office, British Standards
Institute (BSI), The Risk Insight, Strategy and Control Authority - RISCAuthority
(formally IPCRes) and Building Research Establishment (BRE), the MLA also has a
subsidiary company, Sold Secure, which performs certification of security products via
manual attack testing.

In the absence of Government based licensing (meaning that anyone can call
themselves a locksmith), the MLA can provide peace of mind to the end customer
through it’s licensing scheme.
MLA licensed locksmith companies, who undergo strict vetting (including criminal record
checks, regular inspections to ensure quality etc), are able to provide advice based on
knowledge and experience, recommend products that are fit for purpose as well as
provide professional installation and maintenance services.
The Approved Companies inspectorate means the MLA can demonstrate that all
Company Members are meeting high standards. Each company is inspected on a
regular basis, thus ensuring that its members and their operatives maintain standards in
workmanship and administration. Also members are expected to conform to legal
requirements and customer charters exist to ensure customer satisfaction.
Inspections have the effect of making locksmithing companies more accountable for
their daily operations. Approved Company members are made aware that the MLA
considers that training is an essential means to maintaining standards and the
association provides training and information through various means.
The Logo depicted on the bottom right hand corner is the one that is advertised by an
approved company on their premises, vehicles and stationery, confirming to the public
the standards expected of them.
Channels of arbitration exist to fully investigate any complaints or disputes, should they
arise, and the MLA advises or takes any necessary action depending on the outcome

Local Macclesfield Locksmiths?

Locksmith Call centres

It is very easy for the general public to be tricked into calling a national locksmith instead of a genuine local locksmith. National locksmiths usually operate out of call centres and use as many under hand techniques as they think they can get away with to get unsuspecting members of the public to call them. Many of these so called locksmith companies also cover every other trade you can imagine, claiming to be expert locksmiths, plumbers, glaziers, joiners, gas engineers, electricians etc.

For example if you do a Google search for locksmiths Macclesfield you will see the shaded boxes at the top of the page and adverts running down the right hand side of the page, these are paid listings. All the parts in the middle with the white background are known as organic listings which your local locksmiths work hard to stay near the top of results and it does take a lot of time and effort. Many of the company’s which use these paid adverts are national locksmiths although not all of them, the majority usually are.

The national locksmiths pay their way to the top so basically there adverts show higher up than your local locksmiths so they are more likely to be clicked on when a customer has no time to double check the full details of a locksmith. It is very expensive to get a paid advert to the top and as mentioned earlier most of these companies are trying to cover many areas, so there advertising costs are massive! So how do they get this money back? The only way is by charging customers very high fees, when they give out prices they may have hidden charges - making themselves look more inexpensive compared your local Macclesfield locksmith who probably gave you a more genuine estimate including locks, labour VAT etc.

When the national company carry out the work, you are expecting a bill for the price quoted over the phone then you are hit with a huge bill which includes the charge quoted over the phone which usually doubles when they spin a 10 minute job out to make it last 2 hours plus parts, materials, and VAT, turning what sounded like a bargain on the phone into a very expensive mistake! they will have taken a credit card number, so can avoid negotiations!

Why do people call national locksmiths instead of a Macclesfield Local Locksmith?

This will usually be because the company displays a local phone number so people just assume they are local but what they probably don’t realise is that a phone number for any area code can be easily and cheaply obtained . Most customers will call the number at the top of Google because a lot of locksmith work is on an emergency basis (sometimes known as a "distress purchase") and doesn’t have enough time to search through all the listings but if this article just stops one person being ripped off by a national it will be a good thing.

Finding an emergency locksmith in Stockport

If you need a locksmith due to being locked out, loosing keys or other emergency in the Stockport area ( including Gatley, Didsbury, Heaton Moor, Heaton Chapel, Edgeley, Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme, Cheadle, and Poynton)

There are several ways you may find a reliable locksmith

  • Personal recommendation
  • Yellow pages / Thomson printed directory
  • Internet (google or online directories)
Personal recommendation works and would be a good choice.

Yellow pages/ Thompson can be very misleading,  Google, also - many companies claim to be local to you in Stockport, but are not. Beware of giving out a credit card number over the phone. agree a maximum cost before agreement of works. make sure you know their full trading name and address many hide this.

How do you know the locksmith is not a criminal?
How do you know the locksmith is adequately trained and skilled?

there are many bogus associations used to make a company look legitimate ignore any logos apart from the Master Locksmiths Association

French window door hanging

Locksmith Stockport
Door opens out and sits perfectly against wall.
Locksmith Macclesfield
The important thing is where the pivot point is.  Normally "Parliament Hinges" are the automatic choice.
Here I measured carefully and used good quality 4"x4" (100mmx100mm) ball bearing hinges.

The normal size if an external door would be 4"x3" (height x width) this was fitted 10 years ago and has been the perfect solution...
